Targeting molecules are produced by genetic engineering and purified in order to gain a high level of control on the number and orientation of the protein on the nanoparticle surface. We use a bimodular approach, in which the fusion protein includes 1) a capture moiety for the site-specific immobilization on the nanoparticle pre-functionalized with a suitable inhibitor or affinity ligand, and 2) a targeting peptide designed to achieve an effective tumor homing.
